Working Equitation is a dynamic equestrian discipline that blends elements of Dressage, Jumping, and Eventing into a single sport that demands confidence, precision, speed, and elegance. Rooted in traditional working riding styles, it celebrates practical horsemanship while encouraging competition between historic methods of riding. A distinctive feature of Working Equitation is its celebration of heritage, offering riders the opportunity to showcase traditional costumes and equipment.
The traditional Portuguese Relvas saddle was originally designed in the 19th century by Carlos Relvas, reflecting the functional elegance required for working horses and riders of the time.
Why Working Equitation?
This saddle is ideally suited to Working Equitation, as well as Baroque-style riding on PRE and Iberian horses, Lusitanos, and Pasos. Its versatile design, supportive seat, and balanced rider position make it equally effective for Classical Dressage, trail riding, and endurance. Just like the original Relvas saddle, it was created as a true multipurpose design—capable, comfortable, and adaptable across disciplines.
The Parceria
Parceria means partnership in Portuguese—a name chosen to reflect the essential relationship between horse and rider. This saddle was designed to work in true harmony with both, supporting balance, communication, and performance.
Handcrafted in the UK by award-winning Master Saddler Andrew Hastilow, the Parceria has been developed in close collaboration with a Portuguese Master Saddler. The design and testing process also benefited from the expertise of Portuguese riders and trainers, ensuring the saddle remains true to its traditional roots while meeting the demands of modern performance.
The Parceria is built on a modern, flexible tree, incorporating a changeable gullet system. This allows the fit to be adjusted as the horse’s shape changes over time, offering long-term adaptability without compromising stability or comfort.
Finished with traditional wool-flocked panels, the saddle provides excellent support while maintaining the authentic look and feel of the original design. Every Parceria saddle is custom made to client specification, with a wide selection of premium leather options available.
